During his more than 40 years’ experience as an international businessman, consultant, company founder, director and investor Dempsey has made an indelible contribution to the many companies he has founded, directed and helped to grow.

Dempsey is a founder and non-executive director of the AIH Group, founder and director of the PD Naidoo Group of Companies, including PD Naidoo Financial Services Pty Ltd and he has served for more than 10 years as a director of N3 Toll Concession Limited.

Past directorships and significant roles in the industry include 6 yearsservice as chairman of JSE-listed company Texton Property Fund and as director of SA Property Association (SAPOA). He retired as managing director for Africa of Mott Macdonald (following its acquisition of the PD Naidoo Engineering Group).

Dempsey is acknowledged as a mentor and impact investor with a strong focus on empowerment, financial technology, poverty alleviation and manufacturing.

He holds fellowships in SAICE, SAAE, and CESA engineering institutions and he is a member of ICE UK, GAMA and ECSA and he is a Past President of CESA.

Dempsey obtained a BSc Hons in Civil Engineering (Kingston University, UK, 1981) and GDE Civil Engineering (Wits University, 1987).

DEPUTY CHAIRPERSON

Johan is the COO of the AIH Group, a global collective of consulting companies and manufacturing organisations with a focus on business and industry development. He is an experienced project manager and an industry expert with more than 20 years of experience in the automotive industry in South Africa and abroad. His experience includes projects in Uganda, Zambia, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Vietnam and in Oxford, UK.

Johan started his career working for a German OEM in South Africa and later joined suppliers in the automotive industry. Since 2012 he has been consulting with all levels of the automotive industry including the Government, OEMs and suppliers, on various matters including policy, localisation, market assessments, supply chain mapping, value chain analysis, logistics planning and feasibility studies.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

His skills include project management, industrialisation, infrastructure development, management consulting, industrial park and cluster concepts, business turn-around strategies, process optimisation, facilities management, supplier development, market research, business case and strategy and incentive development.

Johan was also involved with the development of various industrial parks and Special Economic Zones, including the Tshwane Automotive SEZ, Rustenburg Platinum SEZ, Namakwa SEZ, Kathu Industrial Park and the Upington Solar SEZ, during which the team has extensively evaluated the relevant value chains.

Johan’s qualifications include a National Diploma in Industrial Engineering and a National Higher Diploma in Quality Management from Tshwane University of Technology and an MBA from Regenesys.

DIRECTOR AND GROUP CEO

Corrie serves as a director and is also the Group CEO of the AIH Group. He is an Industrial Engineer by training, with a passion for all things automotive He has worked both locally and abroad across all levels of the automotive and logistics sector, from dealer development in assembly and components, ranging from SMME companies to multinationals.

His expertise includes:

  • Strategic management and support
  • Project management
  • Business development
  • Extensive local and international networking
  • Infrastructure development projects
  • Cluster development.
  • Company management and directorships.

From June 1993 to January 2001, he carried the responsibility for planning and establishing the Land Rover operation for BMW South Africa. As General Manager of Special Vehicle Operations, and Plant Manager for the Land Rover Plant, his focus was from product development, production management to marketing and sales of products.

From January 2001 to December 2006 Corrie was responsible for Strategic Projects for BMW SA. Between January 2007 and June 2008, he served as Manager of Strategic Planning of BMW SA and was responsible for BMW SA’s corporate and strategic planning and dealer development, with a main focus on the development of a new training centre and facility strategy.

 

From April 2002 to January 2007 he was seconded by BMW (SA)  as the General Manager: Business Development and Logistics of the Supplier Park Development Company (Pty) Ltd. His mandate was to realise the concept with a focus to set up the logistic concept and business development for the ASP. This was the first automotive supplier park development in South Africa.

 

He established Automotive Investment Holdings in 2008 and as Group CEO he directs 12 companies in the AIH Group, operating across all continents, with offices in Dallas (USA), Hengelo (The Netherlands), Oxford (UK), Bratislava (Slovakia) and Sydney (Australasia).

Dr Paulo Fernandes

Dr Paulo Fernandes

Dr Fernandes has over 20 years of experience at all levels of operations, from strategic management, fund acquisition and funder relations, to detailed technical and other project management and client relations. He has worked at all levels of Government – local, provincial and national, across all sectors of industry, in SADC countries and further afield.

He has previously held positions as the Development Manager and Advisory Lead – Africa in Mott MacDonald Africa, an international management and consulting engineering company (2013 to 2019), and as lead for economic infrastructure development in PDNA Consulting Engineers from 2008 to 2013. He was the Managing Director of the Automotive Industry Development Centre from 2000 till 2008, and concurrently held the position of the Chairman of the Board of the Supplier Park Development Company in Rosslyn, South Africa.

Dr Fernandes is a Professional Engineer
(Materials Science and Metallurgy, and Mechanical Engineering), having qualified with a PhD from the University of Cambridge in the UK. He also has a Commercial Degree with majors in Economics and Business Management. He is fluent in English, Portuguese and Afrikaans
